Understanding Medical Cannabis in Australia
A knowledge hub by Made In Hemp
Medicinal cannabis has become one of the most talked-about and misunderstood topics in modern health care — especially here in Australia. Between changing laws, complex access pathways, and conflicting information online, many people feel unsure where to begin. That’s why we’ve created this resource hub: to help explain the language, regulations and plant science behind medicinal cannabis in a clear, grounded and responsible way.
At Made In Hemp, we’ve always been passionate about the hemp plant — from its industrial uses to its role in food, fibre, skincare and future plant-based innovation. Over the years, we’ve deepened our understanding of cannabis as a whole: not just hemp, which is low-THC cannabis, but also the broader conversation around cannabinoids such as CBD, THC, minor cannabinoids and terpenes.
In 2024, we proudly became licensed industrial hemp growers in Australia. Since then, we’ve continued to invest in the future of hemp and cannabis education, including extraction knowledge, product development research, and helping Australians better understand the difference between hemp seed products, CBD, medicinal cannabis and regulated cannabis-derived medicines.
Made In Hemp is licensed to grow industrial hemp in Australia. Current Australian legislation limits what we can say, promote, or supply online in relation to medicinal cannabis, CBD and cannabis-derived products.

Why this hub exists
This is a space to cut through the noise and provide:
- Clear explanations of what medicinal cannabis is, and what it is not
- General information about how medicinal cannabis is prescribed and accessed legally in Australia
- Plain-English breakdowns of cannabinoids such as CBD and THC
- Helpful distinctions between hemp seed oil, CBD oil, cannabis extracts and medicinal cannabis products
- Answers to common questions from real people trying to understand a complex and changing space
- Perspectives from people working with the hemp plant day to day
We are not medical professionals, and we do not provide medical advice. What we can offer is practical, plant-based knowledge, a strong understanding of industrial hemp, and a grounded perspective on the current Australian hemp and cannabis landscape.
If you have questions about hemp, CBD terminology, hemp seed oil, industrial hemp growing, or the topics discussed in this hub, our inbox is always open. We’re happy to help explain the language, point you toward reliable information, or talk through the difference between hemp products and regulated medicinal cannabis pathways in Australia.
