The Anti-Bacterial Factor

One of the standout qualities of bamboo fabric is its natural antibacterial properties. Japanese scientists discovered that bamboo contains a unique agent called bamboo kun, which gives the plant its natural resistance to pests and disease. When woven into fabric, this same compound helps prevent bacteria growth — meaning no more unpleasant odours and fresher-feeling socks and underwear.

Unlike chemical additives that can irritate the skin, bamboo’s antibacterial effect is completely natural and long-lasting. In fact, tests by the China Textile Industry Testing Centre (CTITC) showed that bamboo fabric eliminated 99.8% of introduced bacteria within 24 hours, and the effect remained even after more than 50 washes. By comparison, bacteria on cotton fabric multiplied more than 550 times over the same test period.

This makes bamboo an ideal choice for socks, underwear and base layers — especially in Australia’s warm climate.
