Hemp Shampoo & Conditioner: What Does Hemp Seed Oil Actually Do in Hair Care?
Good hair days, fewer mysteries
What is the hemp doing in your shampoo?
Shampoo, conditioner, a mask and an oil can all have a place. Here is what each step does, how to choose, and why your towel and pillowcase deserve a little attention too.
Cleanse
Shampoo removes everyday oil, dirt and product build-up. Focus the wash on where it is needed.

A rinse-out mask or a little leave-in oil can offer extra conditioning or a smoother finish.

Hemp seed oil is one of the conditioning oils in this range. Alongside argan and other ingredients, it contributes to the feel and finish of the complete formula. It is seed oil, rather than a CBD treatment.
The shampoo still needs cleansing ingredients to wash your hair. Conditioner still needs its conditioning base. Hemp on the label is an ingredient clue; how the whole formula works for your hair matters more.
The hair-care products featured here are made by The Good Oil, a maker we stock. They are separate from the Made In Hemp skincare we manufacture at Long Jetty.

Start with the wash-day basics.
Shampoo and conditioner are a straightforward beginning. Try those before adding several treatments at once.
If your hair feels comfortable and manageable, you may already have all the steps you need.

Make the routine work for your hair
How should I use the shampoo and conditioner?
Wet your hair thoroughly, apply a small amount of shampoo and gently massage, focusing on the scalp and areas of build-up. Rinse well. Repeat only if needed.
Apply conditioner mainly through the mid-lengths and ends. Our current conditioner directions suggest leaving it for around 1–3 minutes, then rinsing thoroughly.
You can adjust where you apply conditioner to your hair type. Fine or easily weighed-down hair often needs less near the roots; drier or curlier lengths may appreciate more coverage.
Do I need the mask as well?
The mask is a richer rinse-out conditioning option when your lengths feel rough, dry or harder to manage.
Apply to clean, damp hair, concentrating on the lengths and ends. Follow the current 1–5 minute directions and rinse thoroughly.
Try it on a wash day when you want extra conditioning, rather than automatically adding it after a generous conditioner application. More product is not always a better hair day.
Despite the name “reconstruction”, it does not permanently mend split ends or reverse all damage. Think improved feel and manageability; trims and gentler handling still have a job.
Where does the treatment oil fit?
This is a leave-in finishing step. Warm a small amount between your palms and smooth it through damp mid-lengths and ends. Start sparingly and add only if needed.
Fine hair may need very little. Thicker, curly or dry-feeling lengths may suit more. Keep the first attempt modest: you can add a little more without organising another wash.
The oil blends grapeseed, argan, hemp seed and jojoba oils, and contains watermelon and raspberry fragrance oils.
Is the shampoo sulfate-free?
No. The current Hemp & Argan Oil Shampoo contains Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES), a cleansing ingredient. If you follow a sulfate-free routine, this shampoo does not meet that preference.
Check the ingredient list on your bottle, particularly if you have used an older version. A formula can include botanical oils and conventional cleansing ingredients together.
If you have a known ingredient sensitivity, review the full current formula before purchasing.
Is this range scented only with essential oils?
No. These hair-care products are distinct from our own essential-oil-scented skincare. The current shampoo, conditioner and mask list parfum; the treatment oil lists watermelon and raspberry fragrance oil.
If avoiding added fragrance is important to you, these particular products are not fragrance-free options. Check the full ingredient lists on the product pages and your current pack.
Will this make my hair grow or treat my scalp?
These are cosmetic cleansing, conditioning and grooming products. Choose them for how they wash, soften and manage your hair, rather than as a treatment for hair loss or a scalp condition.
Persistent itching, redness, painful patches or unexpected hair loss deserve appropriate advice. Adding more oil is not a universal fix.
Good hair care continues after the rinse.
What touches your hair matters too. Vigorous towel rubbing, tight wrapping and a rough sleeping surface can add friction to a routine you have otherwise treated quite gently.
A softer approach can help limit unnecessary tangling and friction-related frizz. Two useful places to start: your towel and your pillowcase.
After the shower
Wrap it. Don’t wrestle it.
Our Bamboo Hair Towel is made from a soft 70% bamboo and 30% cotton blend, giving you an absorbent option for wrapping freshly washed hair.
Gently squeeze out excess water, then wrap without pulling tightly at the roots. Let the towel absorb moisture while you get ready, rather than rubbing your lengths back and forth.
That gentler handling can help keep tangles and frizz from getting a head start, particularly if your hair is curly, wavy or easily roughed up.

Give bed hair a softer landing.
Our Bamboo Pillowcases have a smooth sateen weave, offering a silky-feeling surface for your hair to move across.
A smooth surface can help reduce the rubbing and snagging that contribute to tangles and friction-related frizz as you move during the night.
They will not guarantee perfectly behaved morning hair, but they are a comfortable place to start. Your head gets a lovely pillowcase out of the arrangement too.
Explore Bamboo PillowcasesWill a towel or pillowcase get rid of frizz completely?
Probably not—and a little texture and a few flyaways are perfectly normal.
Frizz can be influenced by your natural hair texture, humidity, damage, styling and how you handle your hair. A soft towel and smooth pillowcase help with the friction part of the picture.
Combine them with gentle detangling, suitable conditioning and less unnecessary heat for a more considered routine. You do not have to persuade every strand to sit perfectly flat.
What else helps between wash days?
- Wash according to your scalp, hair type and build-up, rather than a fixed schedule for everyone.
- Handle tangles gently and use a suitable comb or brush.
- Blot or wrap with a towel instead of vigorous rubbing.
- Avoid hairstyles and towel wraps that pull tightly at your roots.
- Limit unnecessary heat and use a suitable heat protectant if heat styling. This treatment oil is not labelled as one.
- Wash towels and pillowcases regularly, following their care instructions.
- If a routine leaves your hair heavy, try less product or fewer layers before adding something else.
A little less friction. A little less fuss. You can look after your hair while keeping the routine pleasantly manageable.
