How to Care for Your Hemp & Bamboo Clothing

At Made in Hemp, we pride ourselves on offering clothing made from natural fibres like hemp and bamboo. These fabrics aren’t just sustainable—they’re durable, breathable, and beautifully textured. To make sure your garments last and keep their natural charm, it’s important to care for them properly.

1. Washing Your Hemp & Bamboo Garments

  • Hemp: Can be machine washed safely in warm or cold water. Hemp is naturally strong and shrink-resistant, making it easy to care for.
  • Bamboo: Also machine washable in cold or warm water, but bamboo fibres are softer and more delicate. Use cold water where possible to reduce the risk of shrinkage. Avoid hot water.

Use a gentle detergent to protect the fibres and colours. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals.

2. Natural, Chemical-Free Dyes

Our hemp and bamboo fabrics are naturally dyed without harsh chemicals or heavy metals. This gives the garments soft, subtle colours that age beautifully over time. Treat them gently to preserve their natural look.

3. Drying Tips

  • Hemp: Can be air-dried in the shade or tumble dried on a low-heat setting. Hemp is quite robust and holds its shape well.
  • Bamboo: Air-dry in the shade wherever possible. Bamboo is prone to shrinking if exposed to high heat, so best to avoid high-heat tumble drying.

4. Ironing & Storage

  • Iron on low to medium heat if necessary.
  • Fold and store in a cool, dry place to prevent stretching.
  • Avoid hanging bamboo garments for long periods as they may stretch out of shape.

5. Why It’s Worth It

Hemp and bamboo clothing is designed to be long-lasting and comfortable. With a little care, your garments will retain their soft feel, vibrant colours, and eco-friendly integrity for years to come.
